Member of Parliament Tackles Ekumfi Water Crisis Spot On; Donates Ghc10,000.00 for Water Supply

In a display of his unending commitment to the Chiefs and constituents of Ekumfi, Hon. Dr. Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, Member of Parliament for the area, has donated a whopping Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢10,000.00) to support water supply efforts amidst the ongoing water crisis on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Ekumfi Ebiram. The amount was handed over to the Presiding Member of the Ekumfi District Assembly, Hon. Kow Kakra Nketsia-Richardson through the Paramount Chief, Odeefo Akyen VIII.

The water crisis, which has persisted for close to a month, has significantly disrupted daily life in Ekumfi. Residents face challenges in basic activities such as cooking, washing and general household chores due to the lack of running water.

This intervention follows an earlier effort by Dr. Kwainoe to supply water to residents of Abor. With this new commitment, he aims to extend relief to all communities within the constituency.

Briefing Odeefo Akyen VIII on the state of the crisis, Dr. Kwainoe highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting reports from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in Mankessim-Baifikrom. Officials revealed that certain unpatriotic individuals have built structures in waterways areas, obstructing the flow of water to the treatment station. Combined with the ongoing drought which have dried up all streams and dug-outs, this has further exacerbated the crisis.

The MP appealed to the Paramount Chief and his council to address the issue of unauthorized construction in waterways, emphasizing the need for collective effort to prevent such situations in the future.

Hon. Dr. Othniel Ekow Kwainoe reaffirmed his dedication to resolving the challenges of his constituency, ensuring that the immediate and long term water needs of Ekumfi are addressed.
